A traditional Greek sandwich that can be made in a matter of minutes, the gyro encloses mouthwatering contents in a pocket of warm pita bread. It's a filling lunch that's ideal for on-the-go, topped with a creamy and tangy tzatziki sauce and a dash of seasoning.
The most crucial component of a gyro is the meat. Typically, it includes chicken, lamb, or a combination of lamb and beef that has been seasoned with salt, herbs, and spices. The meat has such a fantastic flavor that it is tough not to adore it.
Meat is chopped into small, circular slices for rotisserie cooking, which involves stacking the slices on a spit. On a rotisserie, a tall rotating apparatus positioned in front of a heat source, the spit is mounted vertically.
As the rotisserie rotates, the pieces of meat are placed in an upside-down cone configuration and slowly cooked. Before cooking, the meat is seasoned, and the rotisserie's heat and rotation produce a tasty, moist, and tender end product.
For the gyro plate combos, start by ripping off a piece of pita bread and putting it in the tzatziki sauce. Take a chunk of the gyro meat and place the pita back on the platter. Take a taste of the meat after placing it on top of the tzatziki. Rinse and repeat until it's all gone!
Slices of seasoned beef roasted on a vertical rotisserie are a common ingredient in the two distinct recipes shawarma and gyro. The sort of meat utilized in the two dishes is the primary distinction. While gyros typically feature a mixture of beef and lamb, shawarma is typically made with chicken, lamb, turkey, veal, or goat.
The gyro may arguably be a great healthy, balanced meal. You've got the protein from the lamb or chicken, the dairy from the white sauce, the vitamins and fiber from the vegetables, and finally the carbs from the pita bread or rice.
You also have the option of ordering extra protein or vegetables depending on your fitness goals!
You can say it however you want (we don't judge). From what we understand, "gyro" is pronounced just like it's spelled, since it's an adopted English word. There is no word "gyro" in Greek. There is a Greek word γύρος, transliterated "gyros". In Greece there are several pronunciations, including "zhee-rohs", "gee-ros", and "yee-rohs", though the latter is preferred.
